Every year in Late February-March, hundreds of college students from all over the country come to Miami to celebrate the week that is spring break. Some may think this is a good thing as tourism brings the Miami economy a good boost, however these spring breakers are known to bring terrible things to the city of Miami Beach. Every year it is estimated that about 30 million people travel during the time of spring break.

Spring breakers are notorious for causing havoc to the residents of Miami Beach as they are loud, and reckless when it comes to their drug and alcohol intake. There are countless arrests made every year by the city of Miami Beach Police Department, ranging anywhere from minor misdemeanors to felonies including DUI and Murder. It has gotten to the point that during the 2025 spring break season, Miami Beach decided not to play around anymore.

They urged these college students not to come to Miami Beach as they won’t take their reckless behavior here anymore. Parking was set at $100 per hour anywhere in Miami Beach, liquor stores were closed after 8 PM, there was a curfew set and they placed DUI checkpoints all around to stop these students from destroying the beach. However, some residents felt like this was unfair as going to the beach felt impossible. Carlos Alonso, resident of Miami Beach for 15 years, stated "I like the boundaries that the county and PD have set but I think there should be some loopholes for residents like myself, so I can still enjoy the beach without having to pay parking at $100".
